As Time Goes - Bye

by Mariann Harkness

There was a time
when you and I would drink some wine
and plan our future.
But your ideas did not quite chime
with mine of dance and trips to France.
Instead, by chance, you let slip
that the grip of 'Match of the Day'
was to be our future;
the highlight of our lives.
No chives to titillate our palates
in crepes; no grapes.
No jives to which to rotate our hips,
but shiploads of men leaping and bounding
across a pitch. Let's ditch the plans
to be together, new love of mine,
As forever is a long, long time...
