Stand you sentinel at the door, cloaked in azure
Clear radiance you sing out welcome in the sunlight
Your delicate lattice of grey green leaf
Transformed by long dust of summertime
You burst forth to mirror sky's far horizon
Dense spikes fragrant shine sapphire with joy
Your flower bells ring in late summer chorus
Cheering the spirit with your transience from sad muse
Beauty resolute and unflagging in summer dryness
Joy you give in the heat of the day
Chant of joy to haste and life's scurry
Your filigree foliage dances with zephyrs
Softly you sing with wonder in stillness of evening
Balm for the soul and rest for the eye
